San Benedetto del Tronto is the most important town along the Riviera delle Palme, and the historic home of Italian seaside tourism, with its entertainment and a promenade considered to be among the most beautiful in Europe.

Located in the centre of the historic Piceno territory, San Benedetto del Tronto is the natural destination for beach holidays or as a comfortable and equipped base for trips throughout the year. Half hour by car and you arrive at the historical cities of art such as Ascoli Piceno and Offida, and the amazing fortress of Civitella, as well as the numerous villages of the Tronto valley.

In the territory of San Benedetto, and a short distance from the Hotel International, is one of the most important wetlands of Italy: the Sentina Nature reserve, unspoilt and easily accessible from the promenade, and particularly suitable for bird watching as it is a regular stop for many migratory birds.

Established in 2004, the Regional Sentina Nature Reserve is the smallest protected area of the Marche, but is of great environmental and tourist value. A landscape of water and sand stretches for about 180 hectares encompassing the town of San Benedetto del Tronto, the north of Porto d'Ascoli and the south of the river Tronto, and is a short distance from the Hotel International. The whole area is accessible both on foot and by bicycle.

The Sentina consists of unique environments such as sandbars, retroduanl areas, and salt meadows that are home to a rich and unique flora which have disappeared along most of the Adriatic coast, deeply modified by anthropization. The importance of the area for migratory birds is remarkable, as it offers the only chance for them to stop along the coast between the humid wetlands of the Po delta and the Gargano. For this reason the area is particularly suited to bird watching, thanks to the recent restoration of lakes that are home to wildlife that is both migratory and fixed.
